iOS10 iPhone does not appear in Windows 10 File Explorer

Since upgrading my iPhone 6s Plus to iOS 10.0.1 and iTunes to 12.5.1.21 (Windows 10 64b), I can sync in iTunes, but the phone's storage no longer appears as a drive in File Explorer.

Is this a fault? If not, how can I copy my mobile photos to my computer without using iCloud?

My iOS 10 update went straight to 10.0.2. The iphone no longer shows in the list of drives (Win 10 + 'anniversary update). I want to copy a photo across. iTunes (12.x) doesn't even list photos. I share iTunes with an 80Gb iPod classic. I have a selective set of music and podcasts. iTunes managed to sync and completely messed up my selected podcasts and started to restore albums I had deleted on the phone. This is really crap.

After a couple hours on the phone with Apple Support Level 2, and then almost five hours in an Apple Store being helped by a succession of seven people, we finally just stumbled into a solution, and it is so easy, I'm actually unhappy we wasted all that time on this idiotic and unnecessary problem.

Here's what we did:

  • Plug iPhone into USB port
  • Open Control Panel
  • Open Device Manager
  • Expand Universal Serial Bus Controllers
  • Right-click Apple Mobile Device USB Driver
  • Choose Disable
  • After driver is disabled, unplug phone
  • Plug phone back in
  • Right-click Apple Mobile Device USB Driver again
  • Choose Enable
  • Voilà! Your phone should now appear both in Windows Explorer and Device Manager (under Portable Devices)

I don't know whether you actually have to unplug the phone after disabling, but that's the step we took, so it won't hurt to leave that step in.

This has worked for both my iPhone and iPad, and now on two machines.

Good luck!

Well, what do you know ... this is not working for me anymore. My phone is not showing up in Windows Explorer or Device Manager.

I tried the solution I gave above, and nothing.

I tried antoniosk's solution, and nothing.

The Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is working, my phone is charging, and my phone shows up in iTunes. But not in Windows Explorer or Device Manager.

F*** me, already.

Does anyone know a way I can import photos and videos from my iPhone to my PC without Windows Explorer and without using iCloud? Is there a way to do it in iTunes?

I have already:

- Rebooted the iPhone

- Rebooted the PC

- Made sure iOS 10 is up to date

- Made sure Windows 7 has all updates applied

- Tried multiple cables

- Tried multiple USB ports

- Tried multiple Windows 7 machines

- Tried to update driver (it's already latest version)

- Disabled and enabled driver

- Uninstalled and reinstalled driver

- Uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes (12.5.1.21)

- Tried to Sync over Wi-Fi, which then made my phone invisble to iTunes. It took hours to re-establish that connection.

- Turned off all firewalls

- Turned off Malwarebytes

No permanent solution from any of this.

Any other ideas?
